Example Questions and Answers

How is advertising different from today than that in the past?

Example Answer 1

“It's clear that advertising hasn't changed dramatically from past practices until now. Advertisers still use catchy slogans and brand images to promote the product they are trying to sell. I think the people who created short “movies” for products which have become recently popular, are ahead of the curve and will become the new norm for major companies.”

What is the biggest difference between print ads and digital (video) advertising?

Example Answer 1

“They mostly focus on the same things to be honest, both use eye popping art work or special effects and sadly, they both embody the phrase “sex sells”. Although they differ in the details. One example is prime-time ads on T.V barley use elaborate screen plays and special effects whereas print ads are generally simple.”

How should firms target younger audiences?

Example Answer 1

“Targeting younger audiences is a sensitive subject. I guess the bigger question is, "Is it morally correct to target such a vulnerable group of people? For me, I wouldn't be comfortable taking advantage of people who still rely on people to take care of them.”

Do you think advertising firms have a role in stereotyping gender roles?

Example Answer 1

“This question depends on the awareness of gender roles, which most people do not follow with care. As previously said, the sexualization of advertising is nothing new and so these firms probably have something to do with reinforcement of gender roles in society. Specifically, on how they portray men and women's body image, which can have a devastating effect on teenagers.”
