Tips & Examples

When answering a part 2 question it is important for the candidate to be organized in their answer. There are normally 4-5 parts the candidate must answer. If the candidate is organized, then the part 2 answer will flow a lot better. For the candidate to organize the best they need to make a mind map. A mind map helps organize information and thoughts in a logical manner to help the candidate through the question. It also allows the candidate to log higher level vocabulary, so they don’t forget to use them. Take the following example.

Example Answer 1

“Today I would like to tell you about Shawn, who is my best friend. I suppose I could begin by telling you about how back in the day, Shawn and I met each other while playing youth basketball. We actually grew up together in the same neighborhood, which makes us both suburbanites. To elaborate more, I'll move on to my next point which is about his outstanding personality. He's real down to earth and is a very outgoing guy. He never lies even in the worst situations, and is very blunt, almost to a fault though. Most of the time he's a real class act, especially around women, although he can become a wild child every now and then, just like me. And now to address his appearance, and to be honest, over time he's lost his athletic ability. So, he's currently a little chubby and I make fun of him for it sometimes. He is often slightly scruffy but is generally regarded as attractive and handsome. And to finish up and be brief, I'll tell you a little about why we became best friends. This mainly occurred because he's ultimately my alter-ego. We finish each other's sentences, eat similar foods and are both weird in our own ways, and just like me, he can be bull-headed and difficult to deal with. But overall, he's a great guy. Thank you, that's all I have to say.”
