When writing an overview, it is important for the candidate to highlight the main points of the graph and make comparisons when necessary. When doing this, the candidate is not going to use any data. The data is left for the body paragraphs. When writing an overview, highlight the following areas when possible:
- Number of components
- Groups
- Biggest/smallest
- Highest/lowest
- Trends
Look at the following example:
The graphs below highlight the top exports of China and the United Kingdom in 2011.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Overview:
"Overall, I notice that there are 4 categories. Technology and Textiles hold the overwhelming majority of Chinese exports while Food and Automobiles occupy the minority."
