Task 1: Process Diagram

Topic: Honey Bee Lifecycle

Skill: Describing a sequence of events/passive voice.

Directions: You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write at least 150 words.

The diagram illustrates the life cycle of the honey bee.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Example Response

The diagram depicts the biological life cycle of the honey bee, detailing the transformation from an egg to a mature adult.

Overall, the process consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The entire cycle from egg-laying to maturity takes approximately 20 to 21 days to complete.

The cycle begins when the female bee lays one or two eggs into a hexagonal honeycomb cell. This egg stage lasts for 3 days. Following this, the egg hatches into a larva, a worm-like creature. For the next 5 to 6 days, the larva is fed and cared for by worker bees.

Once the larva is fully grown, the cell is sealed with wax. At this point, the larva spins a cocoon around itself and enters the pupa stage, which is the longest phase of the process, lasting 12 days. Finally, the metamorphosis is complete, and a fully formed adult bee emerges from the cell, ready to begin the cycle anew.

Examiner's Note: This answer uses the Passive Voice effectively ("is fed," "is sealed," "is complete"), which is essential for process diagrams. It also uses strong sequencing words ("Following this," "At this point," "Finally").
