Task 1: Line Graph
Topic: Fast Food Australia
Skill: Describing trends over time (increase, decrease, fluctuate).
Directions: Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words in 20 minutes or less.
The graph below shows the consumption of fast food by Australian teenagers from 1975 to 2000.

Example Response
The line graph illustrates changes in the frequency of fast food consumption by teenagers in Australia over a 25-year period from 1975 to 2000.
Overall, it is immediately apparent that the dietary habits of Australian teenagers shifted significantly. While fish and chips were the most popular option in 1975, their popularity declined steadily, whereas the consumption of pizza and hamburgers saw a dramatic rise.
In 1975, fish and chips were consumed approximately 100 times per year, far exceeding the other two categories. However, this figure fell gradually over the period, finishing at just under 40 times per year in 2000.
In contrast, pizza consumption began at the lowest point, at only about 5 times per year. This figure increased exponentially, surpassing fish and chips in the late 1980s and peaking at 85 times per year in 2000. Similarly, hamburger consumption started at roughly 10 times per year and rose sharply to equal pizza consumption by the end of the period, despite a brief plateau in the mid-1980s.
