Goal: To practice abstract thinking and extending answers.

Instructions: These questions are related to Exercise 2. Give detailed answers (4–5 sentences) and use examples.

Questions:

  1. Do you think children learn faster than adults? Why?

  2. Is it important for schools to teach practical skills (like cooking) or just academic subjects?

  3. What is the most useful skill for people to have in the modern workplace?

Example Response

1. Do you think children learn faster than adults? Why? "Generally speaking, yes. Science suggests that children have greater cognitive plasticity, which makes absorbing new information—especially languages—much more natural for them. They aren't afraid of making mistakes. Adults, on the other hand, often overthink things or feel embarrassed, which can hinder their progress. However, adults do have the advantage of discipline and context, so they can learn complex abstract concepts faster than kids."

2. Is it important for schools to teach practical skills (like cooking) or just academic subjects? "I firmly believe schools should adopt a holistic approach. While academic subjects like math and science are foundational, practical skills are what prepare students for independent living. If a student graduates with high marks in calculus but doesn't know how to cook a healthy meal or manage a budget, I think the education system has failed them. Life skills foster self-reliance."

3. What is the most useful skill for people to have in the modern workplace? "That’s a tough question, but I would argue that adaptability is key. The technology we use today might be obsolete in five years. Therefore, the ability to 'unlearn' old habits and quickly master new tools is more valuable than any single technical skill. Soft skills, like emotional intelligence and communication, are also crucial because machines can't easily replicate them."
